Concrete Polishing and Concrete Grinding
Highwood Construction is now offering concrete floor polishing and grinding services for Flagstaff, Sedona and Lake Havasu City, Arizona

The polished concrete floor above is an example of grinding until the aggregate is exposed and then polished to 1500 grit.
After polishing, a sealer is applied to the concrete to help resist staining.
We poured colored concrete for this polished concrete floor.
However, we can also apply stains to alter the color of ordinary concrete.
This concrete floor received the most expensive level of polishing because we continued grinding the concrete to a consistent level of aggregate exposure.
The cost to polish concrete from least expensive to most expensive is as follows:
CREAM FINISH: does not significantly expose aggregate. (Does the least to flatten the floor. Starts with 75 grit grind.)
SALT AND PEPPER FINISH: finish that exposes small aggregates.
PARTIAL AGGREGATE FINISH: Patches of large aggregate will be exposed - varies by flatness of existing concrete
FULL AGGREGATE EXPOSURE: grinding until the entire floor shows exposure of large aggregate. (The latest finish, starts with 16 grit grind)

Highwood Construction owns the Werkmaster Raider XL5 concrete polishing machine. We also own the equipment necessary for edging and for polishing concrete stairs.
Rates for polishing concrete floors are competitive with other floor options that are much less durable.

We ground and polished this floor to fully expose the large aggregate. We poured this concrete floor with integral color.
Polished concrete floors require very little maintenance. Damp moping will keep it clean and shiny.
This project was part of a crawl space to walk out basement conversion in Flagstaff Arizona.
Other features on this project include a Panoramic Door leading out to a paver patio.
Polished concrete floors are a durable and beautiful alternative to tile, laminate or other solid surface flooring.
We can also polish and seal your garage floor.
If you are building a new home, be sure to ask us to polish the concrete BEFORE the walls are built.
Polishing the concrete before building the walls could save you as much as half of the price compared to polishing with walls installed.
The initial grinding can start two days after the concrete is poured.
Be sure to order at least 4000 psi concrete for a better polish and also consider integral color.

Pictured below: SALT AND PEPPER FINISH

Pictured below is a PARTIAL AGGREGATE EXPOSURE.
Notice that some areas have a "Salt and Pepper" look and other areas have Large Aggregate exposed.
Once furniture or equipment is placed in the room, the variations in a Partial Aggregate Exposure are not as easily noticed.
This floor pictured below also has integral concrete color.

This concrete polishing project pictured above and below is part of another one of our crawl space to walk out basement conversions.
Highwood Construction designed, drafted and completed this crawl space conversion that added almost 700 s.f. to the home.

Pictured above: Another view of the conversion of the crawl space to a walk out basement.
We installed a wall mounted 224v fireplace for heat.
The concrete was polished to: PARTIAL AGGREGATE EXPOSURE - providing a very flat surface for equipment (gym racks, etc...)
This concrete also has integral color, which can cause the areas of "salt and pepper" to look darker than the exposed aggregate areas, as more color rises to the top.
Concrete has lots of natural variation. Many qualities will affect the final polish, including the overall hardness of the concrete and the color of the sand and stones.
Our polishing machine is a dry polishing machine, requiring no water.
We do require 240v 50amp power to run not only the machine but also our dust extraction system.
We typically recommend the customer have a Nema 14-50 plug installed permanently in or near the garage.
This plug can also be used for Electric Vehicle charging, RV power or other equipment.
Highwood construction grinds and polishes concrete in Flagstaff, Sedona and Lake Havasu City.
We also offer concrete grinding to prep and level floors for other types of flooring.
Our machine can grind down high spots in your concrete to prep for finish flooring, tarrazo finishes or for epoxy finishes.
